Dignified dress, made for one person at a time

Masayuki Kaneko
Drawn to the beauty of classic leather shoes and to the craft and sense of aesthetics handed down over generations, Masayuki Kaneko makes shoes with bespoke work at their centre.
A deep interest in fashion led him into the world of shoes. After working in retail, the wish to make things with his own hands took him into shoemaking. He learned the fundamentals at a shoemaking school in Asakusa, then trained under Guild of Crafts, building his skills through a wide range of work — making handmade shoes, teaching, and lasting and soling at a manufacturer.
In 2019 he founded Masayuki Kaneko Shoemaker in Fukuoka.
From carving the last to the final finish, every pair is made by hand — shoes meant to settle naturally into the wearer's daily life and grow richer with time.
Not to reproduce the classic, but to look again at what has been handed down and give it new form within a contemporary sensibility and way of living.
Attention runs to the smallest detail, and the work follows a point of view of its own.
Alongside his bespoke work, he now develops new products through ORNIQUE and runs The Makers Guild, a global craft publication, sharing the appeal of making and the value of handwork.
